Artist Statement

Connectivity has become a powerful cultural need in the last few decades. With the ever increasing range of cell phones and Internet access, the world has become smaller and smaller until no one is farther away than a few pressed buttons.  Solitude has become an increasingly alien state as individuals avoid being alone in favor of becoming part of a group.  Historically and philosophically, solitude has been seen as something to be sought out for the positive mental, emotional, and spiritual effects.

My work celebrates solitude, and encourages viewers to rediscover the wonder of aloneness. Landscapes and references to ephemera provide a method of disconnection from the swirl of society through individual focus.  Even within a space filled with people, it is possible to find real solitude.
