Kevin and I strive to be versatile artists, schooled in various mediums ranging from fibers to welded sculptural techniques. We have enjoyed working together in partnership for more than 30 years. During the last 15 years, gems in their raw or cut forms inspired the main body of our work. Glass’s ability to reflect, refract and magnify light fuels our fascination for creating jewel-like sculpture and allows us to build a world of optical illusions that are shaped from the blown interior and faceted exterior.
Our ideas are first sketched in chalk on the studio floor and are the basis for our blown forms, which then incorporate multiple air chambers, thick layers of clear glass and overlaid colors within the glass. After cooling the glass, we continue the creative process with various cold working techniques using both innovative and traditional cutting and grinding methods, which allows us the flexibility to experiment with new, and unusual sculptural forms.
Our art is continually evolving and we are constantly trying to develop, add, and adapt new techniques and combinations of materials. We are pushing our personal and artistic boundaries by incorporating fine woven metals, brass constructions, gilding techniques and antique mirroring. This has allowed us to move from relying exclusively upon our glass blowing and cold working skills and create new entrancing glass sculptures that move from purely glass forms to multi-media and architectural innovations. This work finds its beginnings from combining Kevin’s analytical, practical understanding of the science of physics and engineering, with my conceptual designs and an instinctive understanding of physics that is not always practical.
