Jay Massey started melting glass in 2001 at the Glass Haus in New Braunfels, Texas. There he started learning various skills and techniques for blowing glass as a hobby. For the first few years, Jay traveled freely about the country using what he had learned to both travel and make ends meet. In 2006 Jay and his wife had a baby girl and started a new family! To support the new addition to the family, he began working full time for Kevin Ivi at Austin Flameworks. Jay has been a resident artist there for over five years, and was fortunate to be a part of building the Flameworks studio from the ground up. During his time in this studio, he has studied with some very amazing lampworkers. Currently Jay works with a group of ten awesome artists, who enjoy motivating each other to push their limits. Jay is also the Austin Flameworks glassblowing instructor and hosts a monthly class, as well as one-on-one lessons. Jay is currently an intern and artist for Salt. His primary goal is to be an outstanding artist, and create exciting work to be enjoyed by all types of people.
