Bill Burch

Bill discovered a passion for ceramics in high school. He continued to do ceramics for several years at the Civic Arts Center in Walnut Creek, CA. and other private studios in the area. He always knew he wanted to be a potter until he was introduced to glass by a roommate in Oakland CA. He found glass fascinating and knew he needed to pursue it.

When making his pieces, Bill uses murrini (cane slices) to achieve the colorful patterns in glass. A plate of these murrini slices are preheated in the glory hole and heavily torched. The now sheet of murrini is rolled up so the edges meet. Once a cylinder is formed a thick gather of clear glass is applied to the end of the rollup. It is then ready to be shaped into a bowl or vessel.
