Cathy Richardson combines a love of nature with meticulous attention to detail to produce art that is often realistic, or semi-realistic, and suggests real scenes or places. Much of her imagery centers around the sea, shorelines, and the flower garden. This is a natural result of a childhood spent with her mother in the garden or greenhouses; time spent collecting shells or other creatures along the beach, and some of her former life as a geologist.
Cathy's work invites you to get closer, to look again and again. She uses the glass as a canvas, but it is more than that. Sometimes she creates designs on its surface. At other times, she builds images within the glass layer by layer, creating a sense of deep spaces. In some pieces she does both, to tease you with two views of the world she has created.
